The Junior Boiler Technician supports the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and basic maintenance of steam generation equipment and associated utility systems. Under the direction of senior technicians or supervisors, this entry-level role assists in boiler startup/shutdown, safety checks, and basic troubleshooting tasks while learning regulatory requirements and plant-specific steam processes.
Assist in monitoring boiler pressures, temperatures, and water levels to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Support startup, shutdown, and blowdown procedures according to standard operating procedures.
Report abnormal conditions, alarms, or equipment malfunctions promptly.
Perform routine checks on burners, pumps, safety valves, gauges, and flame sensors.
Assist in preventive maintenance tasks such as filter replacements, valve lubrication, and leak checks.
Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, and hot work safety protocols during maintenance activities.
Record operational data including pressures, fuel use, condensate return, and feedwater quality.
Learn how to use digital monitoring tools and HMI/SCADA screens for basic system information.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of boiler room and utility areas.
Participate in training programs related to boiler safety, water chemistry, and combustion fundamentals.
Read and begin interpreting P&IDs, maintenance manuals, and technical specifications.
Learn local, state, and federal regulations regarding steam systems and boiler operation.

Basic understanding of mechanical systems (pumps, valves, piping)
Willingness to learn control systems, gauges, and combustion safety components
Comfortable working in hot, noisy, and industrial environments
Dependable, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented
Strong willingness to learn from senior staff and follow procedures
Good communication and teamwork skills
