The Mid-Level Boiler Supervisor will lead and oversee the operation, maintenance, and safety of high-pressure boiler systems and auxiliary equipment in an oil and gas facility. This role involves hands-on supervision of junior staff, ensuring high operational efficiency, and maintaining strict compliance with industry safety and environmental regulations.
Boiler Operations & Supervision:
Supervise daily operations of steam boilers, feedwater systems, and condensate recovery.
Ensure proper startup, monitoring, and shutdown procedures are followed.
Optimize fuel efficiency and boiler performance metrics.
Team Leadership:
Lead and mentor junior boiler operators and technicians.
Allocate tasks and monitor performance of the boiler operations team.
Provide on-the-job training and technical support.
Maintenance Planning & Execution:
Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
Coordinate with the maintenance team for timely repairs and overhauls.
Analyze trends in boiler performance to plan maintenance activities.
Safety, Compliance & Audits:
Ensure compliance with IBR, ASME, OSHA, and other local safety regulations.
Maintain safety documentation and prepare for audits and inspections.
Investigate incidents and implement corrective/preventive actions.
Operational Excellence:
Monitor KPIs related to steam generation, fuel consumption, emissions, and efficiency.
Support energy optimization initiatives and loss reduction programs.
Recommend system upgrades or process improvements.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate logs of operations, maintenance, inspections, and incidents.
Submit reports to plant management regarding boiler performance and issues.
Track inventory of spares and coordinate with procurement when required.
Operational Efficiency: Maximize steam output while minimizing energy and resource consumption.
Safety & Compliance: Maintain high standards of workplace safety and legal compliance.
Team Supervision: Guide and support boiler team for smooth operations.
Downtime Minimization: Ensure boiler systems have minimal unplanned outages.
Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement efficiency and reliability improvements.
In-depth knowledge of steam boiler systems, combustion control, feedwater systems, and instrumentation.
Experience with SCADA/DCS control systems for utility operations.
Strong understanding of IBR, ASME codes, and pressure vessel regulations.
Ability to interpret technical data, operating parameters, and trends.
Root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills for equipment issues.
Understanding of water chemistry and boiler treatment processes.
Strong supervisory skills with ability to manage team shifts and performance.
Effective communicator with the ability to report clearly to management and cross-functional teams.
Experience conducting toolbox talks, safety briefings, and training.
Sound knowledge of safety procedures and emergency response protocols.
Familiar with emission control standards and pollution monitoring.
Education: Diploma / Degree in Mechanical, Thermal, Power Engineering or related field.
Certification: First Class Boiler Attendant Certificate (mandatory in many jurisdictions).
Experience: 5–8 years of experience in boiler operations, including 2–3 years in a supervisory role within oil & gas or heavy industry.
