Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Boiler Supervisor will assist in supervising the daily operations, maintenance, and safety compliance of industrial boiler systems used in oil and gas facilities. The role involves working under the guidance of senior personnel to ensure equipment runs efficiently, meets performance standards, and complies with regulatory norms.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Boiler Operation & Monitoring

    • Monitor and record operational parameters (pressure, temperature, feed water levels, etc.).

    • Assist with boiler startups, shutdowns, and changeovers as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).

    • Support fuel handling systems and combustion control.

  2. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

    • Conduct routine checks and inspections on boilers, valves, burners, pumps, and piping.

    • Support in minor troubleshooting and escalation of major issues to seniors.

    • Assist in scheduling and executing preventive maintenance plans.

  3. Safety & Compliance

    • Ensure adherence to safety regulations (OSHA, IBR, ASME, etc.).

    • Participate in hazard identification and risk assessments.

    • Keep updated records of inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.

  4. Coordination & Communication

    • Report abnormalities or potential failures to senior engineers/supervisors.

    • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Electrical, Instrumentation, Production).

    • Support coordination with third-party vendors for inspections or repairs.

  5. Documentation & Reporting

    • Maintain operational logs, maintenance records, and safety checklists.

    • Assist in preparing daily and monthly performance reports.

    • Track spares inventory related to boiler equipment.

  6. Training & Skill Development

    • Participate in technical training, safety drills, and refresher courses.

    • Stay updated with the latest boiler technologies and industrial practices.

  • Operational Reliability: Ensuring consistent boiler performance with minimal downtime.

  • Health & Safety: Maintaining high safety standards in high-pressure environments.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Supporting documentation and adherence to legal and industry regulations.

  • Maintenance Efficiency: Preventing breakdowns through proactive maintenance.

  • Team Support: Supporting senior staff while learning key operational processes.


Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Technical Skills:

    • Basic knowledge of boiler systems and utility plant operations.

    • Familiarity with pressure gauges, pumps, blowdown systems, and water treatment.

    • Understanding of combustion systems and fuel handling (gas, oil, coal as applicable).

  • Regulatory Knowledge:

    • Working knowledge of IBR (Indian Boiler Regulation) / ASME boiler codes.

    • Awareness of environmental and safety norms in the oil and gas sector.

  • Problem Solving:

    • Ability to identify early warning signs of mechanical issues.

    • Willingness to learn troubleshooting and emergency response procedures.

  • Communication:

    • Clear reporting and shift handover communication.

    • Ability to follow instructions and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Physical & Behavioral Competencies:

    • Physically fit to work in demanding field conditions.

    • Safety-conscious and proactive attitude.

    • Discipline, punctuality, and eagerness to learn.


Qualification & Experience:

  • ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Thermal, or Power Engineering.

  • First or Second Class Boiler Attendant Certificate (as per jurisdiction).

  • 1–3 years of experience in industrial boiler operation (internship/apprenticeship included).

  • Experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, or large industrial utilities is preferred.
