The Junior Boiler Plant Supervisor plays a supporting role in the day-to-day operation and maintenance supervision of boiler systems within a water utility facility. This entry-level supervisory role focuses on monitoring plant equipment, supporting maintenance planning, assisting in compliance and documentation, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of boiler and steam systems. The role is ideal for someone with technical experience in boiler operations and a desire to grow into a senior supervisory or management role.
Assist in the supervision of boiler plant operations, including monitoring steam generation, boiler feed systems, blowdown processes, and fuel systems.
Support daily inspections and operational checks to ensure that boilers, burners, pumps, valves, and steam distribution lines operate safely and efficiently.
Collaborate with senior supervisors to plan and carry out routine preventive maintenance and coordinate with maintenance teams during equipment servicing.
Help implement and enforce safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and hot work permits.
Support operational recordkeeping, including logging system readings, maintenance activities, and incident reports.
Report abnormalities in boiler operations such as pressure drops, unusual noises, or combustion issues to senior staff.
Participate in training and development programs to enhance understanding of boiler codes, water treatment standards, and utility system optimization.
Coordinate with water treatment staff to ensure proper boiler feedwater quality and prevent scaling, corrosion, and thermal inefficiency.
Safe and Efficient Operation of Boiler Equipment
Monitor plant performance and ensure adherence to operational parameters and basic troubleshooting standards.
Support in Maintenance Planning and Execution
Assist in scheduling and tracking of maintenance work orders using tools like CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
Regulatory Awareness and Compliance Support
Gain familiarity with boiler codes (e.g., ASME, NBIC) and support compliance efforts through documentation and inspection readiness.
Feedwater and Steam Quality Management
Support coordination with water treatment teams to maintain proper chemical balance and thermal efficiency.
Development and Learning
Engage in hands-on learning and mentorship under senior supervisors with the goal of advancing to a lead or full supervisory role.
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or related field.
1–3 years of experience in boiler operations, utilities, or thermal systems maintenance.
Basic knowledge of boiler components, steam generation processes, and industrial safety standards.
Familiarity with standard operating procedures (SOPs), technical manuals, and P&IDs.
Strong communication and teamwork skills with a proactive, safety-first attitude.
