The Mid-Level Boiler Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of boiler systems, including auxiliary equipment like feedwater pumps, burners, and pressure relief systems. This role involves monitoring, troubleshooting, and performing routine maintenance while ensuring adherence to boiler codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
Operate and monitor fire-tube or water-tube boilers, maintaining proper steam pressure and temperature levels.
Adjust combustion controls and fuel/air ratios to maintain efficient operation.
Conduct boiler blowdowns, check water levels, and maintain proper chemical balance in the feedwater system.
Inspect and maintain boiler mountings: safety valves, gauges, low-water cut-offs, and pressure relief systems.
Assist with burner cleaning, soot blower operation, valve servicing, and minor repair work.
Maintain readiness of fuel systems (gas/oil/solid) and boiler auxiliaries.
Maintain daily boiler logs, water treatment records, and operational checklists.
Report incidents, parameter deviations, and potential equipment failures to the shift supervisor or engineer.
Conduct basic water testing (pH, TDS, hardness) and adjust chemical dosing accordingly.
Collaborate with water treatment specialists for maintaining proper boiler water chemistry.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols: LOTO, confined space entry, and hot work regulations.
Operate boilers in compliance with ASME, IBR, or regional boiler safety codes.
Participate in boiler inspections, shutdowns, and certification audits.
Coordinate with maintenance teams during scheduled shutdowns, tube replacements, or major repairs.
Provide support to junior boiler attendants and contribute to operational training efforts.
