The Junior Boiler Operator assists in the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of steam boilers, feedwater systems, and associated utility equipment. Under supervision, the operator ensures safe and efficient boiler performance, learns regulatory standards, and participates in preventive maintenance activities.
Monitor boiler parameters such as pressure, temperature, fuel levels, and water levels.
Assist in starting up and shutting down boilers as per standard operating procedures.
Support daily operation checks including blowdowns and condensate return observations.
Clean burner tips, strainers, and sight glasses under supervision.
Report leaks, unusual noises, or equipment malfunction to senior operators.
Help with minor maintenance tasks like gasket replacement or valve greasing.
Record operational data such as hourly readings, water treatment logs, and downtime events.
Maintain logbooks, shift reports, and incident records as per plant protocols.
Assist in conducting boiler water sampling and testing (pH, TDS, hardness).
Support chemical dosing under supervision of a senior operator or water treatment technician.
Follow plant safety guidelines including PPE, hot work protocols, and confined space rules.
Learn regulatory requirements (e.g., ASME, IBR, or local boiler code).
Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks.
Coordinate with senior operators, mechanics, and maintenance teams during outages.
Support emergency shutdown or trip recovery procedures.
