Job Title: Boiler Mechanical Fitter

Job Summary:

The Junior Boiler Mechanical Fitter is responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of boiler systems in industrial and commercial environments. This role requires a basic understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to follow instructions to ensure the safe and efficient operation of boilers. Under the supervision of senior engineers and fitters, the Junior Boiler Mechanical Fitter will gain hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, rigging, and troubleshooting of boilers and related systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Boiler Installation Assistance:

    • Assist senior fitters in the installation of boilers, pressure vessels, piping systems, and associated mechanical components.
    • Help in positioning and securing turbine and boiler parts according to engineering specifications.
    • Support the preparation of materials, tools, and equipment required for boiler installation.
  2. Maintenance and Repairs:

    • Assist in routine maintenance of boiler systems to ensure optimal performance, including cleaning, adjusting, and calibrating boiler components.
    • Help in identifying and resolving basic issues with boiler systems, such as leaks, blockages, or performance problems.
    • Support the replacement of parts such as seals, valves, and gaskets under the supervision of senior fitters.
  3. Assembly and Mechanical Fitting:

    • Assist in the assembly of mechanical components, including pipes, valves, and flanges, as part of boiler installations or repairs.
    • Use hand tools and power tools to assemble, align, and install mechanical components for boilers and related systems.
    • Support the fitting of pressure relief valves, gauges, and other mechanical parts to ensure proper boiler operation.
  4. Rigging and Lifting Support:

    • Assist in rigging and lifting heavy components using cranes, hoists, and other rigging equipment to position boilers and components.
    • Ensure all lifting equipment is safely used and that appropriate safety measures are followed during rigging activities.
  5. Testing and Inspection:

    • Assist in conducting basic tests to verify the performance of boiler systems, such as pressure tests, leak tests, and system functionality checks.
    • Support the inspection process to ensure that all components are functioning as expected, and assist in troubleshooting issues under the guidance of senior fitters.
    • Help verify that all installation work is compliant with safety standards and regulations.
  6. Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with boilers and mechanical systems.
    • Follow the guidance of senior fitters to ensure compliance with local codes, safety regulations, and industry standards (e.g., ASME, API).
    • Report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions promptly to senior staff to ensure a safe working environment.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of boiler installation and maintenance activities, including work completed, parts replaced, and system tests performed.
    • Support the preparation of reports on boiler performance, maintenance issues, and repairs, ensuring detailed documentation is available for future reference.
  8. Collaboration and Learning:

    • Work closely with senior fitters and engineers to learn best practices for boiler fitting and maintenance.
    • Participate in team meetings to discuss project progress, safety updates, and any challenges encountered during the work.
    • Seek opportunities for professional development by asking questions, attending training sessions, and observing senior fitters.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems and components, with an interest in learning about boilers and related equipment.
  • Familiarity with common hand tools and power tools used for mechanical fitting (e.g., wrenches, drills, pipe benders).
  • Willingness to follow instructions, work under supervision, and collaborate effectively with other team members.
  • Basic knowledge of safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
  • Good communication skills to assist in reporting progress and troubleshooting issues.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow technical drawings and instructions accurately.

Key Focus Areas:

Field Instrumentation: Assist in maintaining and calibrating field devices for accurate process control.

Troubleshooting: Learn basic fault diagnosis and support the resolution of issues in instrumentation systems.

Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and participate in training programs to ensure workplace safety.

Skill Development: Gain technical knowledge and experience in oil and gas field operations.

Educational Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement).
  • Vocational training or certification in mechanical fitting, plumbing, or industrial maintenance is beneficial but not required.
  • Basic coursework in mechanical engineering or related fields is a plus.

Experience:

  • No prior professional experience required.
  • Internships, academic projects, or hands-on experience with mechanical systems, boilers, or industrial maintenance are advantageous but not mandatory.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Exposure to hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment such as wrenches, drills, pipe benders, and alignment tools.
  • Familiarity with basic safety equipment, such as gloves, helmets, and protective eyewear.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong willingness to learn and develop hands-on technical skills in mechanical fitting, boiler maintenance, and repair.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and follow instructions from senior fitters and engineers.
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy components, work in confined spaces, and be on your feet for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work in an industrial environment, following established safety protocols and contributing to a safe and productive work environment.
