Job Title: Boiler Mechanical Fitter

Job Summary:

The Senior Boiler Mechanical Fitter is responsible for overseeing and executing the installation, maintenance, and repair of boiler systems, ensuring they operate efficiently, safely, and comply with industry standards. This senior role requires advanced technical expertise, leadership skills, and extensive experience in boiler systems and mechanical fitting. The Senior Boiler Mechanical Fitter will supervise a team of junior and mid-level fitters, ensure that boiler installations and repairs meet the highest standards, and provide troubleshooting expertise on complex systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Boiler Installation and Commissioning:

    • Lead the installation and commissioning of boiler systems, ensuring alignment with project specifications, safety protocols, and industry regulations.
    • Oversee the installation of mechanical components, including pumps, valves, and heat exchangers, ensuring correct assembly, alignment, and functionality.
    • Coordinate and supervise the final inspection and testing of installed boilers to ensure they meet performance standards and operational requirements.
  2. Maintenance and Repair Management:

    • Lead the team in routine and preventive maintenance of boiler systems, ensuring they operate at peak performance and in compliance with safety standards.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical issues related to boiler components, including pressure problems, leaks, and performance inefficiencies.
    • Manage the repair and replacement of critical boiler components, such as burners, valves, seals, and gaskets, ensuring minimal downtime.
  3. System Optimization and Performance Monitoring:

    • Analyze boiler performance data and implement improvements for better energy efficiency, reliability, and operational effectiveness.
    • Lead the optimization of existing systems, integrating new technologies or making design modifications to improve boiler functionality.
    • Provide expertise in diagnosing and solving system performance problems, such as operational inefficiencies or pressure malfunctions.
  4. Team Leadership and Supervision:

    • Supervise and mentor a team of boiler fitters, technicians, and assistants, providing guidance on safe work practices, installation techniques, and troubleshooting methods.
    • Delegate tasks to junior fitters, ensuring that all work is carried out efficiently, on time, and in line with safety and quality standards.
    • Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and promote skills development within the team.
  5. Safety and Compliance Leadership:

    • Ensure that all boiler installations and maintenance work are carried out in full compliance with safety standards, including local, national, and industry-specific regulations (e.g., ASME, API, OSHA).
    • Lead safety audits and inspections, ensuring that all work practices adhere to established safety guidelines and protocols.
    • Conduct regular safety briefings for the team, reinforcing the importance of PPE, proper tool usage, and adherence to safety procedures.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain detailed records of installation, maintenance, and repair activities, including work completed, parts replaced, and system performance evaluations.
    • Prepare comprehensive reports for senior management, clients, and regulatory authorities, detailing the status of boiler systems, performance metrics, and any corrective actions taken.
    • Ensure that all modifications and work are documented accurately for compliance and future reference.
  7. Project Management and Coordination:

    • Coordinate boiler installation and maintenance projects, managing timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure successful project execution.
    • Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other departments to ensure smooth integration of boiler systems into larger projects.
    • Ensure that all aspects of boiler installation or maintenance projects are completed within scope, on time, and to specification.
  8. Troubleshooting and Technical Expertise:

    • Serve as the subject matter expert for troubleshooting complex issues within boiler systems, offering solutions and managing repairs or replacements.
    • Provide technical support to junior fitters and other team members during the installation, maintenance, or commissioning phases.
    • Conduct root-cause analysis on recurring mechanical failures and suggest design or operational changes to improve boiler performance.
  9. Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

    • Stay updated with the latest advancements in boiler technology, maintenance practices, and industry regulations to implement the most efficient and effective solutions.
    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of boiler installation and maintenance procedures, incorporating new technologies or methodologies to enhance performance and safety.
    • Lead efforts to reduce energy consumption, minimize downtime, and improve the overall lifecycle management of boiler systems.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Advanced understanding of boiler systems, including mechanical components, pumps, valves, and heat exchangers.
  • Expertise in boiler installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., ASME, API, OSHA) for boiler systems.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and mechanical systems (e.g., wrenches, pipe benders, welding equipment).
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills, with experience managing and mentoring a team.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, particularly related to complex mechanical and operational issues in boiler systems.
  • Excellent communication skills for reporting, coordinating with other departments, and providing guidance to the team.

Key Focus Areas:

Field Instrumentation: Assist in maintaining and calibrating field devices for accurate process control.

Troubleshooting: Learn basic fault diagnosis and support the resolution of issues in instrumentation systems.

Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and participate in training programs to ensure workplace safety.

Skill Development: Gain technical knowledge and experience in oil and gas field operations.

Educational Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement); technical certifications in mechanical fitting, boiler installation, or industrial maintenance are preferred.
  • Certification in welding, pipe fitting, or related mechanical disciplines is highly advantageous.
  • Additional training in industrial safety, boiler maintenance, and energy efficiency would be beneficial.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of boiler systems.
  • Significant experience in supervising and leading a team of fitters or technicians in boiler-related projects.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting complex mechanical issues and optimizing boiler system performance.
  • Experience working with large-scale industrial boiler systems in power plants, manufacturing facilities, or similar environments.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency in using mechanical and welding tools, alignment tools, and diagnostic equipment (e.g., pressure gauges, thermometers, flow meters).
  • Familiarity with maintenance management software and reporting tools for tracking boiler system status, performance, and repair activities.
  • Experience with control systems (e.g., PLCs, SCADA) for monitoring and optimizing boiler operation is a plus.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting heavy components, working at heights, and being on-site for extended hours as needed.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites for installations, commissioning, or maintenance work.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality standards.
