The Senior Boiler Fitter plays a critical leadership role in the assembly, installation, inspection, and maintenance of marine boilers and their associated systems aboard vessels and in shipyards. This position requires extensive hands-on expertise in high-pressure steam systems, including water tube and fire tube boiler configurations, burner systems, and auxiliary components. The Senior Boiler Fitter provides technical supervision, ensures compliance with Class society standards, and leads teams in executing boiler repairs and modifications during dry-dock, overhaul, or emergency maintenance operations.
Supervise and perform the disassembly, inspection, re-tubing, reassembly, and testing of marine boilers (main and auxiliary)
Interpret engineering drawings, welding specifications, and alignment tolerances to ensure correct boiler and component fit-up
Oversee the installation and maintenance of burners, fuel supply lines, safety valves, steam drums, superheaters, and economizers
Conduct and support hydrostatic pressure testing, air leak testing, and burner alignment procedures
Inspect and verify welded joints, refractory lining, and gasket installations in accordance with Class rules (e.g., ABS, DNV, LR)
Coordinate with marine engineers, welders, pipefitters, and NDT inspectors during vessel overhauls and boiler servicing projects
Ensure compliance with IMO safety regulations, confined space entry, hot work permits, and lockout/tagout protocols
Train and mentor junior boiler fitters and apprentices on safe and precise work practices
Maintain accurate records of repairs, materials, and inspection reports for Class survey submission
Recommend technical improvements in material usage, repair strategies, and maintenance intervals to improve system longevity
Leadership in marine boiler fitting and pressure part assembly
Regulatory compliance and inspection readiness
Troubleshooting boiler mechanical faults and improving reliability
Coordination of multi-disciplinary teams during dry-docking and repairs
Education:
Technical diploma or trade certification in Boilermaking, Marine Engineering, or Mechanical Fitting
Advanced training in marine steam systems, boiler maintenance, and pressure vessel codes
Familiarity with ASME Section I, IACS rules, and Class society requirements
Experience:
7+ years of boiler fitting experience in marine or industrial environments
Proven leadership in dry-dock, shipyard, or offshore maintenance projects
Experience with both water tube and fire tube marine boilers preferred
Technical Skills:
Proficient in mechanical measurement, alignment tools, and boiler tube rolling/expanding techniques
Strong understanding of burner systems, feedwater control, thermal expansion management, and sealing practices
Skilled in interpreting P&IDs, mechanical blueprints, and inspection checklists
Competent in managing hydro-testing, safety valve installation, and shutdown/start-up sequences
