The Senior Boiler Fitter leads the assembly, maintenance, troubleshooting, and overhaul of complex marine boiler systems and steam auxiliary equipment on vessels and in shipyards. This role requires expert mechanical skills, thorough knowledge of boiler design and marine regulations, and the ability to manage and mentor junior fitters and apprentices. The senior fitter ensures all work complies with Class society standards, safety protocols, and operational requirements while collaborating with engineering, QA, and inspection teams during major repairs or new installations.
Lead and perform complex assembly and maintenance of marine boilers, burners, superheaters, economizers, steam drums, and high-pressure piping
Supervise tube installation, removal, expansion, and repair, ensuring mechanical integrity and compliance with design specifications
Interpret and verify engineering drawings, welding procedures (WPS), P&IDs, and maintenance manuals for accuracy during fitting tasks
Plan and execute maintenance strategies including preventive, predictive, and corrective repairs for boiler systems
Coordinate and oversee mechanical work during Class society inspections, dry-dock surveys, and regulatory audits
Mentor and train junior and mid-level fitters, ensuring adherence to best practices, safety, and quality standards
Manage tooling, equipment calibration, and maintenance of mechanical workshop facilities related to boiler fitting
Collaborate closely with NDT inspectors, welders, marine engineers, and QA teams to ensure repair quality and system reliability
Ensure all fitting activities comply with marine safety regulations (IMO, SOLAS), confined space entry protocols, and hot work permits
Provide technical recommendations for system upgrades, repairs, and life extension programs based on operational data and inspection feedback
Leadership in marine boiler assembly, repair, and overhaul projects
Ensuring compliance with Class society, flag state, and international maritime regulations
Technical mentorship and workforce development
Coordination of multidisciplinary teams during major vessel maintenance
Education:
Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related field preferred
Advanced certifications in boilermaking, pipefitting, or marine mechanical trades
Familiarity with ASME Boiler Codes, IACS requirements, and Class society standards
Experience:
7+ years of hands-on marine boiler fitting and maintenance experience
Demonstrated leadership in dry-dock projects and marine boiler system overhauls
Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams, inspection regimes, and regulatory bodies
Technical Skills:
Expert in mechanical assembly, tube fitting, burner installation, and steam system troubleshooting
Proficient in reading and verifying complex engineering drawings, technical specs, and inspection reports
Strong knowledge of safety valve installation, hydrostatic testing, and system commissioning
Skilled in tool and equipment management, including precision alignment tools and calibration devices
