Boiler Fitter / Mechanical Fitter – Boilers

The Senior Boiler Fitter / Mechanical Fitter – Boilers leads the installation, inspection, repair, and overhaul of complex boiler systems and associated mechanical equipment. This includes pressure parts, headers, tubes, valves, expansion joints, and pipework. The role demands expertise in ASME/API standards, high-pressure system integrity, and shutdown execution, while also mentoring junior team members and ensuring compliance with HSE regulations.

📌 Key Responsibilities:

🔧 Advanced Installation & Overhaul

• Lead the fit-up and assembly of boiler components: steam drums, downcomers, risers, economizers, and superheaters.

• Ensure accurate pipe alignment, flange bolting, and welding preparation (including root gap and face alignment).

• Supervise complex retrofit or modification tasks during plant upgrades or shutdowns.

🛠️ Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Diagnose mechanical issues such as misalignment, erosion, or tube leaks in steam generation systems.

• Lead re-tubing, gasket replacement, seal replacement, and pressure part refurbishment.

• Oversee mechanical overhauls during scheduled outages, ensuring work is completed on time and to code.

📏 Technical Leadership

• Interpret and validate engineering drawings, isometrics, spool sheets, and QA/QC documentation.

• Conduct precision measurements using micrometers, vernier calipers, dial gauges, and laser alignment tools.

• Collaborate with engineering for fitment adjustments or drawing clarifications.

🛡️ Safety & Code Compliance

• Ensure strict adherence to safety standards: LOTO, confined space, work at height, and hot work protocols.

• Lead compliance to ASME Section I/VIII, API 530, and site-specific pressure vessel standards.

• Participate in risk assessments and method statement reviews.

🧪 Quality & Testing Oversight

• Lead and witness hydrostatic and pneumatic tests alongside inspectors.

• Support welding inspection, flange management, and NDT (UT, RT, MPI) coordination.

• Ensure all mechanical work meets or exceeds quality standards and acceptance criteria.

👥 Team Leadership & Training

• Mentor junior and mid-level fitters, assigning tasks and reviewing workmanship.

• Coordinate with welders, riggers, inspectors, and project engineers during shutdowns or installations.

• Provide input to planning and scheduling teams for work sequencing.

🎓 Qualifications:

• Education:

  • ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Fitting or Boiler Maintenance

  • Higher education (Mechanical Engineering or equivalent) preferred but not mandatory

• Experience:

  • 7+ years in boiler system assembly and maintenance

  • Proven experience in shutdowns, pressure systems, and high-temperature operations

  • Familiar with heat recovery boilers, utility boilers, and process steam systems

• Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong technical knowledge of steam generation, piping systems, expansion handling, and code requirements

  • Expertise in reading and executing complex mechanical and piping drawings

  • Skilled in problem-solving, root cause analysis, and process improvement

  • Strong HSE focus with proven safety track record

• Certifications (Preferred):

  • Boiler Operation Certification (BOE – if regionally required)

  • Hot Work, Confined Space, Rigging & Lifting Safety, Permit-to-Work training

  • Familiarity with NDT coordination and QA/QC documentation handling
