This role is designed for individuals with a foundational knowledge of mechanical engineering who are eager to gain hands-on experience working with boiler systems. Under the guidance of senior engineers, the Junior Boiler Engineer will support in ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable boiler operations, including routine inspections, repairs, and troubleshooting of boiler-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Boiler Operation Support:

    • Assist in the day-to-day operation of boiler systems, monitoring key performance parameters such as pressure, temperature, and water levels.
    • Support the operation of steam generation systems, ensuring they operate within designed parameters and optimize fuel and energy consumption.
    • Learn to adjust boiler controls and help manage combustion efficiency under supervision to optimize the operational performance of the boiler system.
  2. Boiler Maintenance and Inspections:

    • Conduct regular inspections of boiler components (e.g., burners, valves, pumps, and safety systems) to identify potential issues or wear.
    • Assist in preventive maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts, to ensure reliable boiler operation.
    • Support senior engineers in troubleshooting common boiler system issues, such as low pressure, combustion problems, or faulty valves.
  3. Troubleshooting and Repairs:

    • Learn to identify and diagnose simple boiler system issues under supervision, such as pressure fluctuations or system malfunctions.
    • Assist in the repair and replacement of faulty boiler components such as valves, seals, and gaskets.
    • Help with basic troubleshooting using diagnostic tools like pressure gauges, thermometers, and flow meters.
  4. Boiler System Testing and Calibration:

    • Assist in conducting routine performance tests to ensure that boiler systems are operating efficiently and meeting regulatory requirements.
    • Support testing and calibration of pressure gauges, thermometers, and other monitoring equipment to ensure accurate system performance.
    • Participate in leak testing, pressure testing, and other diagnostic procedures to ensure boiler safety and compliance with standards.
  5. Safety Compliance and Regulations:

    • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., ASME, OSHA) during boiler operation and maintenance tasks.
    • Assist in performing safety checks and inspections of pressure relief valves, safety shutoff valves, and other critical safety equipment.
    • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines when operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting boiler systems, and help maintain a safe work environment.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, and boiler system performance.
    • Assist in documenting operational issues, maintenance procedures, and equipment failures for future reference and audits.
    • Help prepare daily reports summarizing boiler performance and any repairs or maintenance performed.
  7. Learning and Development:

    • Continuously develop skills in boiler engineering by learning about different types of boilers, their components, and their operation.
    • Participate in on-the-job training sessions and workshops to enhance technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
    • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, tools, and best practices in boiler operation and maintenance.
  8. Collaboration with Other Teams:

    • Work closely with senior engineers, technicians, and maintenance teams to ensure the smooth operation of the boiler system.
    • Assist in coordinating with external vendors or suppliers for the procurement of necessary replacement parts or tools.
    • Provide support to operators and other team members during maintenance tasks, ensuring efficiency and safety.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems and boiler components, such as pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and pressure relief devices.
  • Familiarity with basic diagnostic tools and techniques used in the operation and maintenance of boiler systems.
  • Knowledge of boiler safety systems, including pressure safety valves, low water cutoffs, and flame safeguard systems.
  • Willingness to learn new technical skills related to boiler operations, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to assist in diagnosing simple boiler issues and suggest solutions under supervision.
  • Good communication skills to report issues, document findings, and collaborate with team members effectively.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining safety and operational standards.

Key Focus Areas:

Field Instrumentation: Assist in maintaining and calibrating field devices for accurate process control.

Troubleshooting: Learn basic fault diagnosis and support the resolution of issues in instrumentation systems.

Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and participate in training programs to ensure workplace safety.
