Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Boiler Control Systems Technician is responsible for assisting in the installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of Boiler Management Systems (BMS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and SCADA systems used in the operation and monitoring of industrial boilers. The role supports the safe and efficient control of boiler combustion, steam generation, and system alarms through automation platforms under close supervision of senior technical staff.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting BMS, PLC, and SCADA systems for boiler control and monitoring.

  • Support calibration and testing of field devices such as temperature, pressure, flow, and level sensors used in boiler automation.

  • Monitor system alarms, log events, and escalate irregularities to the control room or senior engineers.

  • Perform regular checks on control panels, wiring, I/O modules, and communication systems.

  • Follow standard operating procedures to support system backups, firmware updates, and minor programming changes under guidance.

  • Participate in scheduled maintenance and shutdowns involving boiler instrumentation and control components.

  • Document field activities, update equipment records, and support compliance reporting for system integrity and safety.

  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams during testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.

  • Learn and follow safety standards, electrical safety practices, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures when working on control systems.


🎯 Key Focus Areas:

  1. Boiler Automation Support

    • Assist in operating and maintaining automated boiler control systems for safe combustion, firing sequence, and interlock checks.

  2. System Troubleshooting

    • Learn to identify faults in control wiring, sensors, and PLCs with support from senior technicians.

  3. Sensor Calibration & Diagnostics

    • Perform routine calibration and basic diagnostics on control loop instruments affecting boiler performance.

  4. SCADA Monitoring & Data Collection

    • Support real-time monitoring of boiler systems through SCADA platforms and assist with trend analysis and reporting.

  5. Compliance & Safety Awareness

    • Adhere to relevant codes and safety procedures including NFPA 85, ASME, and ISA standards related to control systems and boilers.


📘 Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or related field.

  • 0–2 years of experience (internship or apprenticeship preferred) in control systems or industrial automation.

  • Basic understanding of PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), SCADA systems, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus).

  • Familiarity with control instrumentation used in boiler operations (pressure switches, transmitters, flame detectors, etc.).

  • Strong desire to learn and develop in a highly technical and safety-sensitive environment.

  • Good documentation and communication skills.

  • Willingness to work in boiler rooms, control rooms, and industrial plant settings under rotating shifts if required.
