Execute block/brick masonry works (AAC/CMU/solid blocks), lintels, chases, and associated details to approved drawings and specifications, achieving required tolerances, quality, and safety while coordinating with other trades and respecting local weather and traffic/logistics constraints in Sharjah.
Read IFC/shop drawings; verify dimensions, levels, control lines, and required openings/penetrations.
Check substrate readiness (DPC/bitumen, waterproofing, screed levels, rebar starters) before starting.
Prepare tools, mixers, scaffolds/working platforms; ensure materials are within validity and properly stored.
Lay AAC/CMU/solid blocks per approved pattern, gauge, and bonding; keep line/level/plumb using string line, spirit/laser level.
Form door/window openings, lintels, and movement/control joints with correct reinforcements, ties, and anchors.
Create chases, recesses, and sleeves for MEP services only after approvals; ensure firestopping and acoustic details where required.
Build parapets, shaft walls, stair/lift core infills, boundary and block screen walls as per details.
Maintain correct mortar/adhesive consistency and joint thickness; fill head and bed joints fully; rake joints for plaster/skim when specified.
Protect fresh work; install temporary bracing until walls gain strength.
Meet tolerances for verticality, alignment, thickness, coursing, and opening sizes; rectify snags promptly.
Coordinate and present work for MIR/WIR inspections; assist with cube tests/mortar checks when requested.
Ensure block density/class matches submittal; segregate defective units; avoid mixing types without instruction.
Sequence walls with MEP first fix and waterproofing to avoid rework.
Leave and later infill inspected openings; ensure proper fire/acoustic sealing at services and slab/beam junctions.
Coordinate with finishing team for straight/true walls to minimize plaster thickness and tile lippage.
Follow method statements/ITPs and HSE rules: scaffolding/MEWP safety, edge protection, silica dust control, manual handling, and hot-work interfaces.
Keep work areas tidy; manage waste and off-cuts; maintain safe access routes and material stacks.
Heat & Humidity:
Work heavy/manual tasks in early morning/evening; comply with MOHRE summer midday break.
Cool mixing water/shade materials; use manufacturer-approved retarders only if specified; extend curing and prevent rapid drying/cracking.
Store cement/adhesives and AAC blocks under cover; avoid direct sun prior to laying.
Dust/Sand:
Dampen blocks lightly to reduce suction and dust; use dust suppression when cutting; protect nearby finishes/equipment.
Clean bonding surfaces before laying and before applying plaster/skim.
Occasional Rain/Coastal Effects:
Cover fresh walls and stored materials; avoid laying on saturated or actively wet surfaces; use corrosion-resistant ties near coastal exposure as specified.
Traffic & Logistics:
Plan off-peak deliveries for blocks, sand, and cement; use banksman for off-loading; keep hoist/lift schedules to prevent site congestion.
Stack materials close to work fronts without overloading slabs; maintain clear access for emergency and inspection routes.
3–6 years masonry experience (UAE/GCC experience preferred) on low/mid-rise RC buildings.
Ability to read simple drawings and follow setting-out marks; basic arithmetic for coursing/openings.
Knowledge of AAC/CMU laying methods, mortars/adhesives, control joints, lintels, firestopping interfaces.
Awareness of Sharjah site practices and inspection routines (consultant/WIR).
Physical fitness for manual tasks; commitment to safety and quality.
Trowels, jointers, levels/laser, string lines, masonry saw/cutter with dust extraction, mixers, buckets, scaffolds/working platforms, measuring tape, PPE (helmet, gloves, safety boots, goggles, mask/respirator).
Line/level/plumb accuracy & neat workmanship
Productivity and time management
Teamwork and trade coordination
Safety awareness (dust, lifting, working at height)
Care of materials and housekeeping
Productivity: m² of blockwork per day within target for block type and height.
Quality: Rework/snags ≤ target; tolerances achieved on first inspection.
HSE: Zero lost-time incidents; compliance with PPE and scaffolding rules.
Waste: Mortar/block waste within budgeted allowance.
Inspections: First-time pass rate for WIRs ≥ agreed threshold.
