Job Summary:
The Supervisor-Level Biomedical Equipment Technician is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, calibration, and repair of medical devices, while managing a team of technicians to ensure operational efficiency. This role involves planning and coordinating maintenance activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, and acting as a key liaison between technical teams and healthcare management. The supervisor drives quality improvement initiatives, manages resources, and ensures timely resolution of technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Management:
- Supervise a team of junior and senior technicians, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing guidance.
- Conduct regular team meetings to review progress, address challenges, and align goals with organizational objectives.
- Mentor team members, fostering skill development and professional growth.
Maintenance and Calibration Oversight:
- Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and repair of a wide range of medical equipment, including high-complexity devices like imaging systems, diagnostic tools, and life-support systems.
- Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules to ensure optimal equipment performance and minimize downtime.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are documented accurately and meet compliance requirements.
Advanced Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
- Provide expertise in resolving complex technical issues that junior technicians are unable to address.
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with manufacturers, vendors, and other stakeholders to address critical technical challenges.
Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all maintenance and repair activities comply with industry standards, such as ISO 13485, IEC 60601, and FDA regulations.
- Lead internal audits and assist in external inspections to maintain regulatory certifications.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and quality in maintenance practices.
Resource Management:
- Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and calibration equipment to ensure availability for all maintenance tasks.
- Monitor and optimize the use of resources to stay within budget and achieve cost-efficiency.
- Provide recommendations for new equipment purchases or upgrades based on performance data and clinical requirements.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact between technical teams and clinical staff, ensuring equipment meets operational needs.
- Liaise with hospital management and vendors to report progress, propose improvements, and address concerns.
- Prepare and present reports on maintenance activities, compliance, and team performance to leadership.
Innovation and Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, enhance maintenance efficiency, and adopt innovative technologies.

Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related technical field.

Experience:
- 5-7 years of experience in biomedical equipment maintenance, with demonstrated expertise in handling advanced systems.
- Proven experience in leading teams or supervising technical staff.
Tools and Technologies:
- Advanced diagnostic and calibration tools, such as signal simulators, flow analyzers, and multimeters.
- Familiarity with maintenance management software and inventory tracking systems.
