Job Summary:
The Senior Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, calibration, and repair of complex medical devices and systems. This role involves providing advanced technical expertise, managing high-stakes troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The senior technician mentors junior staff, leads process improvement initiatives, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to maintain optimal device performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Advanced Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
- Lead the maintenance, calibration, and repair of advanced medical equipment, including imaging systems, anesthesia machines, diagnostic devices, and life-support systems.
- Perform comprehensive inspections and testing to ensure equipment operates within manufacturer specifications.
- Maintain detailed service records, including calibration logs and repair histories, for compliance and operational tracking.
Preventive Maintenance and Optimization:
- Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules for all critical medical devices.
- Analyze equipment performance data to identify inefficiencies and recommend upgrades or replacements.
- Ensure all preventive maintenance activities meet regulatory and safety standards.
Complex Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
- Diagnose and resolve high-level technical issues using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring or critical failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Liaise with manufacturers, vendors, and regulatory bodies to resolve complex equipment challenges.
Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all activities adhere to regulatory standards, including ISO 13485, IEC 60601, and FDA requirements.
- Lead internal and external audits, providing detailed documentation and maintaining compliance certifications.
- Develop, refine, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment management.
Leadership and Team Mentorship:
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level technicians, fostering skill development.
- Conduct training sessions to enhance the team’s proficiency in maintaining and troubleshooting medical equipment.
- Supervise the work of the team to ensure adherence to quality standards and operational efficiency.
Innovation and Process Improvement:
- Research and implement emerging technologies, such as predictive maintenance tools and automation systems.
- Propose and lead initiatives to streamline workflows and enhance equipment reliability.
- Contribute to the development of best practices for equipment management and maintenance.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work closely with clinical staff to ensure medical equipment meets operational and clinical needs.
- Provide technical support during the deployment of new equipment and system upgrades.
- Act as a liaison between healthcare teams, manufacturers, and vendors to address technical issues and improvements.

Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related technical field.
- Advanced certifications in medical device calibration, regulatory compliance (e.g., ISO 13485), or quality management are preferred.
Experience:
- 7-10 years of experience in biomedical equipment maintenance, repair, and calibration, including advanced systems.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage high-complexity equipment operations.
Tools and Technologies:
- Proficiency in advanced diagnostic and calibration tools, including multimeters, flow analyzers, electrical safety testers, and software for maintenance management.
- Familiarity with data analytics tools for equipment performance monitoring and predictive maintenance.
- Knowledge of automation technologies and IoT applications in biomedical equipment management is advantageous.
