Job Title: Biomedical Engineer (Instrumentation)

Job Summary:

The Biomedical Engineer (Instrumentation) at the fresher level is responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, and calibration of biomedical instruments and devices in healthcare environments. This role involves learning about advanced biomedical technologies, assisting with troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with healthcare safety and regulatory standards. The engineer will work under supervision, developing foundational skills in biomedical instrumentation and supporting healthcare professionals in device utilization.

Key Responsibilities:

Device Installation and Setup:

  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and integration of biomedical instruments, including patient monitors, ventilators, and laboratory equipment.
  • Conduct initial testing and validation to ensure devices are functioning according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Provide basic user support to healthcare staff during equipment setup.

Maintenance and Calibration:

  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of biomedical devices under supervision to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Support preventive maintenance tasks to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Maintain detailed logs of maintenance and calibration activities for compliance and audit purposes.

Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving basic technical issues in biomedical devices.
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify performance issues and report findings to senior engineers or supervisors.
  • Learn to document troubleshooting activities and corrective actions for future reference.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety:

  • Adhere to healthcare safety protocols and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485).
  • Ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of biomedical devices.
  • Participate in safety training sessions and workshops to build knowledge of healthcare compliance requirements.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Work closely with senior engineers and healthcare teams to understand device requirements and operational challenges.
  • Assist in providing technical support to clinicians and end-users for biomedical equipment.
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to procure parts and accessories as needed.

Learning and Development:

  • Gain hands-on experience with biomedical instrumentation and control systems, including sensors, actuators, and software interfaces.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge of advanced biomedical technologies.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and advancements in the biomedical instrumentation field.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Familiarity with calibration tools and techniques for biomedical equipment.
  • Awareness of healthcare regulations and safety standards (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying device issues.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with healthcare professionals and technical teams.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Basic certifications or coursework in biomedical equipment maintenance or calibration are advantageous.

Experience:

  • No prior experience required; internships or academic projects related to biomedical instrumentation are beneficial.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Exposure to diagnostic tools such as electrical safety analyzers, signal simulators, and calibration devices.
  • Familiarity with patient monitoring systems, infusion pumps, and diagnostic imaging equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of data logging and analysis tools is a plus.
