The Supervisor of Avionics Wiring and Sensor Installation Technicians is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and quality control of all avionics harnessing and sensor integration activities for aircraft systems under development, testing, or modification. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant installations, and provides technical leadership and team management in a fast-paced aerospace environment.
Team Leadership & Oversight:
Lead, schedule, and supervise a team of technicians performing complex avionics wiring and sensor installations across aircraft or systems.
Planning & Coordination:
Coordinate work with engineering, quality, and test departments. Manage timelines, technical resources, and manpower allocation to meet project goals.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
Enforce compliance with all applicable aerospace standards (e.g., AS50881, IPC/WHMA-A-620, FAA/EASA requirements) and internal quality protocols. Conduct reviews and signoffs.
Technical Review & Signoff:
Review installation drawings, wiring schematics, and test plans for accuracy and completeness. Approve redlines, revisions, and as-built configurations.
Mentoring & Development:
Mentor junior and senior technicians. Provide technical training, evaluate performance, and develop technician competencies.
Process Improvement:
Drive continuous improvement in wiring layout efficiency, sensor integration processes, and documentation accuracy. Propose new tools, fixtures, or workflow enhancements.
Test Support:
Ensure all avionics and sensor systems are test-ready and provide real-time troubleshooting support during ground and flight testing phases.
Safety & Documentation:
Uphold safety standards, manage installation records, and maintain traceability documentation for all wiring and sensor activities.
Leadership & Supervision:
Manage and develop a high-performing avionics wiring and sensor team, ensuring accountability and adherence to technical standards.
Strategic Planning & Execution:
Translate engineering and test requirements into actionable work plans and deliverables aligned with program timelines.
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration:
Interface with design engineering, systems integration, flight test, and QA to ensure seamless coordination of installation activities.
Quality Control & Risk Mitigation:
Implement rigorous inspection protocols to reduce rework, avoid test delays, and ensure reliability of wiring/sensor installations.
Program Delivery Assurance:
Ensure all avionics wiring and sensor integration work is completed on time, within budget, and in line with test and certification needs.
Associate or technical degree in Avionics, Electrical Technology, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred)
7+ years of hands-on experience in avionics/sensor integration, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role
Deep knowledge of aircraft wiring standards, sensor systems, and aerospace integration practices
IPC/WHMA-A-620, AS50881, or equivalent certification highly preferred
Experience managing cross-functional teams in aerospace, flight test, or prototype environments
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Familiarity with aerospace project documentation, configuration control, and change management
