The Senior Avionics Wiring and Sensor Installation Technician is a highly skilled technician responsible for leading and executing complex avionics wiring, harness fabrication, and sensor integration on advanced aerospace platforms. This role ensures system integrity, test readiness, and compliance with aerospace wiring standards. The technician also provides mentorship to junior staff and collaborates closely with engineering teams to resolve technical challenges during aircraft development or flight testing.
Advanced Wiring & Harness Fabrication:
Fabricate, route, and install complex wiring harnesses, including multi-branch bundles, MIL-spec connectors, and EMI/RFI shielding techniques.
Sensor System Integration:
Independently install and verify a wide range of sensors (e.g., RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, LVDTs, proximity, Hall effect) across multiple systems and aircraft sections.
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
Lead fault isolation and correction efforts for electrical issues, using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and wire testers. Validate circuit integrity and signal performance.
Leadership & Mentorship:
Mentor junior and mid-level technicians, assign tasks, review work, and assist in developing team capabilities. Set quality benchmarks and reinforce best practices.
Process Development:
Help refine wiring standards, layout practices, labeling conventions, and configuration management protocols. Recommend improvements to streamline sensor and harness integration.
Technical Documentation:
Generate and validate build documentation, as-built wire diagrams, redlines, and installation logs to ensure traceability and regulatory compliance.
Flight Test Support:
Coordinate with engineering teams to prepare aircraft for power-on, ground test, and flight test events. Provide on-call wiring/sensor support during test campaigns.
System-Level Integration Expertise:
Apply deep understanding of aircraft subsystems and their interconnections to ensure optimal sensor placement and reliable signal routing.
Installation Quality and Consistency:
Deliver high-quality, airworthy wiring and sensor installation work that meets or exceeds standards (e.g., AS50881, IPC/WHMA-A-620, NASA-STD-8739).
Test Readiness Assurance:
Drive readiness of avionics and instrumentation systems for functional, environmental, and flight testing.
Configuration Control:
Maintain meticulous records of wiring revisions, sensor configurations, and installation changes to support post-test data analysis and aircraft certification.
Cross-Functional Communication:
Interface effectively with engineering, quality, flight test, and production to resolve integration and design issues proactively.
Technical degree, associate degree, or equivalent military/industry training in avionics or electrical systems
5+ years of hands-on experience in avionics wiring, harnessing, and sensor integration in aerospace, military, or high-reliability environments
Expertise with MIL-spec wiring, high-density connector termination, and advanced shielding/grounding practices
Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and test schematics
Certification in IPC/WHMA-A-620 or equivalent preferred
Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
Prior experience supporting flight test or prototype aircraft programs is a significant plus
