The Mid-Level Avionics Wiring and Sensor Installation Technician is responsible for independently performing complex wiring and sensor installation tasks on aircraft used for development, testing, or production. This role ensures that all wiring, terminations, sensor installations, and connections are completed per engineering standards, test requirements, and industry specifications.
Wiring Harness Installation:
Install, route, and terminate avionics wiring harnesses using schematics, wire lists, and connector pinouts. Ensure proper shielding, strain relief, and bundling.
Sensor Integration:
Mount and connect a variety of sensors (e.g., temperature, pressure, accelerometers, proximity, Hall effect) according to placement diagrams and data acquisition requirements.
Connector Assembly & Termination:
Crimp, solder, and assemble electrical connectors (MIL-spec, circular, D-sub, etc.) with precision, ensuring compliance with aerospace wiring standards.
Quality Assurance:
Perform self-inspections and support peer quality checks to ensure all wiring and sensor installations meet internal and regulatory standards.
Troubleshooting Support:
Assist in verifying circuit continuity, insulation resistance, and signal integrity during checkout and system validation phases.
Documentation & Traceability:
Update installation records, sensor location maps, and wiring diagrams to reflect as-built configurations for test readiness and traceability.
Mentorship & Collaboration:
Provide technical guidance to junior technicians and work collaboratively with engineering, quality, and test teams.
Precision and Quality Control:
Ensure wiring and sensor work is clean, accurate, and adheres to aerospace electrical standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620, AS50881).
Independent Execution:
Work with minimal supervision on moderate-to-complex installation tasks, including troubleshooting wiring issues during system bring-up.
System Familiarity:
Understand how wiring and sensor placement ties into broader aircraft systems such as flight controls, DAQ systems, and avionics buses.
Test-Readiness Support:
Prepare systems for functional testing by verifying connections, continuity, and sensor responsiveness.
Process Improvement:
Identify and propose improvements in wiring practices, layout efficiency, or documentation clarity.
Technical diploma, certification, or associate degree in Avionics, Electrical Technology, or a related field
2–5 years of hands-on experience in avionics wiring and sensor installation in an aerospace or high-tech environment
Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and installation instructions
Skilled in the use of crimp tools, soldering equipment, wire markers, and cable management techniques
Familiarity with MIL-spec wiring and sensor integration for test or flight hardware
Strong communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
Experience with aircraft or UAV electrical systems is highly preferred
