The Junior Avionics Wiring and Sensor Installation Technician assists in the integration of avionics systems and sensor installations on aircraft for development, testing, or production purposes. This entry-level position supports the layout, routing, and termination of electrical wiring and helps install, secure, and connect various types of sensors according to engineering drawings and test plans.
Wiring Support:
Assist with the routing, cutting, labeling, and securing of electrical wiring harnesses based on drawings, wire lists, and schematics.
Sensor Installation:
Support the installation and connection of basic sensors such as temperature, pressure, accelerometers, and proximity switches under supervision.
Tool Use:
Use hand tools, crimpers, and soldering irons to assist with wire preparation and connector assembly, with guidance from senior technicians.
Documentation:
Help maintain wiring logs, sensor location maps, and installation records in accordance with engineering and test documentation standards.
Compliance Adherence:
Follow safety procedures, wiring standards, and quality protocols during installation work.
Collaboration:
Work closely with senior technicians, engineers, and quality inspectors to ensure accurate and compliant installations.
Learning and Development:
Gain proficiency in reading wiring diagrams, pinout tables, and connector assembly instructions.
Wiring Basics:
Build foundational skills in aircraft wiring practices, including shielding, strain relief, and bundle organization.
Sensor Familiarity:
Understand basic sensor types, installation methods, and their role in avionics and data acquisition systems.
Attention to Detail:
Practice meticulous wire labeling, connector pinning, and routing for ease of troubleshooting and traceability.
Team Integration:
Function effectively in a technician team environment, taking direction and contributing to larger wiring and sensor integration efforts.
Diploma or certification in Aircraft Maintenance, Avionics Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field
0–2 years of relevant experience in avionics, electrical wiring, or instrumentation (internships or projects acceptable)
Basic understanding of aircraft systems and electrical safety
Familiarity with wiring tools, cable management, and ESD-safe practices
Ability to follow engineering drawings and verbal instructions
Willingness to learn in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
