You will leverage your experience in mechanical design to develop reliable and efficient systems that integrate seamlessly with electrical and electronic avionics components. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the mechanical systems meet aerospace safety, performance, and manufacturability standards.

This role is ideal for individuals with some experience in avionics or aerospace mechanical engineering who are looking to take on more responsibility and grow in the field.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Mechanical Design and Modeling:

    • Design and develop mechanical systems and components that integrate with avionics systems, such as enclosures, sensor mounts, wiring harnesses, and other mechanical assemblies.
    • Create detailed 3D models, drawings, and assemblies using CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or AutoCAD) for avionics components and subsystems.
    • Collaborate with electrical engineers and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
  2. Engineering Analysis and Simulation:

    • Conduct structural, thermal, vibration, and shock analyses on mechanical components and systems using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other simulation tools.
    • Validate mechanical designs for strength, durability, and thermal performance under operational conditions.
    • Assist in performing simulations and optimization to ensure designs meet performance standards and aerospace requirements.
  3. Prototyping and Testing:

    • Lead the development of prototypes for avionics mechanical systems and oversee the testing process.
    • Plan, set up, and conduct tests to evaluate the mechanical performance of avionics components, ensuring they meet functional, safety, and environmental requirements.
    • Analyze test results and make design recommendations for improvements or adjustments.
  4. Cross-functional Collaboration:

    • Work closely with electrical engineers, systems engineers, and manufacturing teams to ensure that mechanical designs integrate effectively with avionics systems and meet system requirements.
    • Coordinate the mechanical system integration, ensuring compatibility with other subsystems and components in the aircraft or spacecraft.
    • Participate in design reviews and provide input on integration challenges and solutions.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation for all design work, including design specifications, technical reports, testing procedures, and results.
    • Ensure that all designs, prototypes, and tests are well-documented and comply with industry regulations (e.g., FAA, MIL-SPEC, ISO).
    • Prepare reports for senior management and stakeholders to communicate design progress, testing outcomes, and system performance.
  6. Mentorship and Guidance:

    • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support them in their professional development.
    • Review and provide constructive feedback on the work of junior engineers, ensuring high standards of design quality and accuracy.
  7. Continuous Improvement:

    • Drive continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance the efficiency and quality of avionics mechanical systems.
    • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in avionics technologies, materials, and design practices to apply innovative solutions in mechanical design.
