Avionics Integration Supervisor – Sensors and Systems

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Avionics Integration Supervisor – Sensors and Systems is responsible for managing the end-to-end integration of sensor-based avionics systems within aerospace platforms. This role ensures proper physical installation, electrical connectivity, and data communication between sensors and core avionics, in compliance with industry standards and program timelines. The supervisor acts as the bridge between engineering design and hands-on implementation, leading teams in execution and validation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sensor Integration Leadership:
Supervise the installation and integration of various avionics sensors including IMUs, air data sensors, temperature, pressure, GPS, Hall effect, and proximity sensors.

  • Wiring and Signal Integrity Oversight:
Ensure proper routing, shielding, grounding, and termination of sensor cables. Maintain EMI/ESD protection standards and verify signal transmission quality.

  • Interface Management:
Oversee the physical and logical interfacing between sensors and avionics systems such as flight control units, navigation systems, and data acquisition modules.

  • Team Supervision and Mentorship:
Lead a team of avionics technicians and junior supervisors, providing daily task direction, quality checks, and skill development.

  • Drawing and Documentation Review:
Interpret engineering drawings, interface control documents (ICDs), and wiring diagrams. Provide feedback and ensure redlines are updated accurately.

  • Testing Coordination:
Organize and support pre-integration checks, continuity tests, and functional sensor validations during integration and commissioning phases.

  • Compliance Assurance:
Enforce compliance with DO-160, ARINC, AS50881, and other relevant standards. Participate in audits, inspections, and documentation reviews.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Coordinate with design engineers, flight software teams, and QA to ensure seamless integration and system-level compatibility.

Focus Areas:

  1. Sensor Interfacing Accuracy:
Ensure that all avionics sensors are correctly interfaced to downstream avionics systems with verified data integrity.

  2. Standard-Based Execution:
Implement integration processes based on aerospace wiring and testing standards, ensuring airworthiness and compliance.

  3. Integration Efficiency:
Minimize integration-related delays by identifying risks early and implementing corrective actions during installation.

  4. Quality Assurance:
Maintain detailed records of sensor installation, verification, and integration status to support system-level testing and certification.

  5. Team Development:
Build technical strength within the team by sharing knowledge, enforcing good practices, and identifying training needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Avionics, Aerospace Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.

  • 5–8 years of experience in avionics system installation and integration, with a focus on sensor systems.

  • Strong knowledge of ARINC 429, RS-422, CAN bus, and MIL-STD-1553 data communication protocols.

  • Proficient in reading engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring harness layouts.

  • Experience with signal testing tools like oscilloscopes, loop testers, and breakout boxes.

  • Familiarity with DO-160 and AS9100 compliance requirements.

  • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
