Avionics Integration Supervisor – Sensors and Systems

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Senior Avionics Integration Supervisor leads complex avionics sensor integration efforts across aerospace platforms, ensuring seamless physical, electrical, and software-level interfacing of critical sensor systems. This role oversees high-complexity integration tasks, mentors technical teams, and ensures compliance with rigorous aerospace standards and program objectives. The position plays a key role in bridging engineering design, field execution, and system-level verification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership in Integration:
Lead the full life-cycle integration of avionics sensors such as IMUs, pitot-static systems, air data computers, Hall effect sensors, accelerometers, GPS units, and temperature/proximity sensors into airframes and control systems.

  • System Interface Oversight:
Oversee the configuration and validation of analog/digital sensor signals interfacing with flight computers, FADEC, autopilot, and navigation systems.

  • Mentorship & Supervision:
Direct, mentor, and evaluate the performance of mid- and junior-level integration supervisors and technicians. Set technical direction and enforce quality standards.

  • Engineering Collaboration:
Serve as a key liaison between avionics engineers, systems designers, software developers, and test teams to ensure sensor requirements and integration logic are met.

  • Advanced Troubleshooting & Resolution:
Lead root cause analysis for integration anomalies, sensor communication faults, or EMI/grounding issues during functional and flight testing.

  • Regulatory & Standard Compliance:
Ensure all sensor installations comply with AS9100, DO-160, DO-254, ARP4754, and customer specifications. Drive internal audits and support regulatory inspections.

  • Test Readiness & Documentation:
Validate readiness of sensor systems for qualification testing, ground trials, and flight test campaigns. Approve installation records, redline drawings, and interface documentation.

  • Cross-Program Support:
Advise on sensor architecture and integration strategies for concurrent aerospace programs, upgrades, and retrofits.

Focus Areas:

  1. Mission-Critical Sensor Reliability:
Deliver sensor integration solutions that ensure real-time, fail-safe data delivery to flight-critical systems under all environmental and operational conditions.

  2. Compliance and Traceability:
Lead integration work to full traceability with configuration management, revision control, and compliance with airworthiness requirements.

  3. System Integration Efficiency:
Optimize installation workflows, interface designs, and testing strategies to accelerate integration timelines and reduce rework.

  4. Interface Management:
Ensure robust and validated electrical and logical interfaces between sensors and avionics subsystems, including redundancy and fault-tolerance features.

  5. Organizational Excellence:
Build a culture of technical rigor, safety, quality, and continuous improvement in the integration team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Avionics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.

  • 7+ years of direct experience in avionics sensor system integration on aerospace platforms.

  • Deep expertise in integrating and troubleshooting avionics protocols (ARINC 429, CAN, MIL-STD-1553, RS-485, etc.).

  • Extensive hands-on experience with aerospace sensor technologies and data acquisition systems.

  • Proven track record of supervising large teams in high-stakes aerospace programs.

  • Strong command of aviation regulatory standards (FAA/EASA), quality systems (AS9100), and testing practices (DO-160).

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage interface documentation, and represent the integration team in design reviews and audits.
