Job Summary: 

The Automation Engineer leads the design, implementation, and optimization of advanced automation systems for industrial and manufacturing processes. This role involves managing large-scale projects, mentoring junior engineers, troubleshooting complex issues, and driving innovation in automation technologies. The Senior Engineer ensures compliance with industry standards and contributes to strategic decision-making to improve operational efficiency and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and programming of sophisticated automation systems, including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and HMIs.

  • Oversee the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of automation systems, ensuring alignment with project specifications.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve advanced technical issues, implementing innovative solutions to enhance system performance.

  • Optimize existing automation processes for improved productivity, safety, and cost-efficiency.

  • Develop detailed technical documentation, including system designs, wiring diagrams, and operation manuals.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, clients, and vendors to define project requirements and deliverables.

  • Mentor and train junior and mid-level engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering skill development.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending and implementing innovative solutions.

  • Ensure all automation activities comply with industry regulations, safety protocols, and quality standards.

  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources, delivering projects on schedule and within scope.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Expert-level knowledge of PLCs ( Siemens, Allen-Bradley), SCADA, DCS, and HMI programming and integration.

  • Advanced understanding of industrial communication protocols ( Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, OPC UA).

  • Strong proficiency in reading and developing P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics.

  • Leadership and project management skills to oversee teams and complex projects.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to address critical system challenges.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience in automation engineering, with a proven track record of leading projects and resolving complex technical issues.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Process Control in Drilling, Refining, and Extraction: Leading the design, optimization, and implementation of advanced process control systems.
  • SCADA Systems for Pipeline Management: Overseeing the development, integration, and enhancement of SCADA systems for complex pipeline networks.
  • Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Driving the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety and emergency shutdown systems.
  • Environmental and Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring organizational adherence to regulatory standards, leading audits, and mentoring teams on compliance best practices.

Tools and Equipment:

  • Advanced automation tools and software ( Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, Schneider EcoStruxure).

  • Diagnostic and calibration tools ( oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters).

  • Project management tools ( MS Project, Primavera) for scheduling and resource allocation.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong communication and leadership skills for mentoring teams and engaging with stakeholders.

  • Strategic thinking and decision-making abilities for long-term process improvements.

  • Commitment to maintaining safety, quality, and regulatory compliance in all projects.

  • Flexibility to travel to client sites for system commissioning and troubleshooting.
