Job Title: Automation Engineering

Job Summary:

Automation Engineering oversees the planning, execution, and optimization of automation systems across multiple projects or facilities. This role involves managing teams of engineers, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and aligning automation strategies with organizational objectives. The Manager plays a critical role in driving innovation, managing budgets, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality automation projects on time and within scope.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of automation projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of innovation and professional growth.

  • Oversee the design, programming, and implementation of advanced automation systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and DCS.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality assurance protocols in all automation activities.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, clients, and vendors to define project requirements and deliverables.

  • Drive process improvements by implementing cutting-edge technologies and optimizing existing automation systems.

  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and evaluations to maintain the safety, reliability, and performance of automation systems.

  • Prepare and present reports on project progress, system performance, and strategic initiatives to stakeholders and executive leadership.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of automation systems, including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and HMI integration.

  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols ( Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, OPC UA).

  • Advanced project management skills, including budgeting, resource planning, and scheduling.

  • Leadership and team management skills to motivate and guide multidisciplinary teams.

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to align technical solutions with business objectives.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and compliance requirements ( ISA, IEC, NFPA).

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Certifications in project management ( PMP) or automation ( Certified Automation Professional) are advantageous.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in automation engineering, including at least 3-5 years in a managerial or leadership role.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Process Control in Drilling, Refining, and Extraction: Strategizing and overseeing the deployment of innovative process control solutions to drive operational excellence.
  • SCADA Systems for Pipeline Management: Managing the development, standardization, and lifecycle optimization of SCADA systems across operations.
  • Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Leading cross-functional teams to design, implement, and audit safety and emergency response systems.
  • Environmental and Regulatory Compliance: Establishing company-wide compliance frameworks, ensuring regulatory adherence, and driving environmental sustainability initiatives.

Tools and Equipment:

  • Advanced design and programming tools ( Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, MATLAB).

  • Project management software ( MS Project, Primavera) for scheduling and monitoring progress.

  • Diagnostic tools ( oscilloscopes, network analyzers) for system evaluation.
