Job Title:  Assembly Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Assembly Technician to take a leadership role in our assembly operations. In this senior position, you will oversee and lead the assembly process, ensuring that all mechanical components and products are assembled accurately and efficiently. You will troubleshoot complex assembly issues, mentor junior technicians, and contribute to process improvement initiatives. As a key member of the production team, you will help ensure that products meet quality standards, are delivered on time, and meet customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Mentorship:

   • Lead the assembly team by setting an example for high standards of productivity, quality, and safety.
   • Mentor and provide training to junior technicians, offering guidance on best practices, troubleshooting, and process improvements.
   • Support the team with complex assembly tasks and challenges, providing troubleshooting and technical expertise.

2. Product Assembly and Troubleshooting:

   • Independently assemble and test mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and finished products according to detailed assembly drawings and specifications.
   • Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime and improve assembly efficiency.
   • Lead the assembly of custom or complex products that require advanced technical knowledge and experience.

3. Quality Control and Process Improvement:

   • Ensure all products meet the highest quality standards by conducting thorough inspections during and after assembly, making adjustments as needed.
   • Implement and lead quality control measures to detect and resolve defects, ensuring consistent product quality across all stages of production.
   • Identify opportunities for process improvements, such as reducing cycle time, enhancing product quality, or optimizing assembly workflows, and actively work to implement these improvements.

4. Machine and Tool Setup and Maintenance:

   • Set up and calibrate assembly tools, machines, and equipment for each production run.
   • Ensure that all assembly machines and equipment are in good working order, performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
   • Collaborate with the maintenance team to identify and resolve any equipment issues affecting the assembly process.

5. Documentation and Reporting:

   • Maintain accurate records of assembly tasks, including production logs, quality control checks, and any issues encountered during the assembly process.
   • Report on production status, quality control results, and any deviations from standard procedures to supervisors and managers.
   • Ensure that all assembly-related documentation is up-to-date, including work instructions, safety procedures, and maintenance logs.

6. Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:

   • Work closely with engineering, production, and quality control teams to ensure alignment between assembly operations and overall production goals.
   • Participate in cross-functional meetings to discuss process improvements, product changes, and challenges affecting production.
   • Provide feedback to the engineering team regarding potential improvements to product designs that will enhance assembly efficiency and reduce production costs.

7. Safety and Compliance:

   • Ensure that all assembly activities comply with workplace safety standards and company policies.
   • Enforce the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure that the work area is clean, safe, and organized.
   • Lead safety training sessions and safety audits, ensuring that all team members are aware of and adhere to safety procedures.

   • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot assembly machinery to ensure smooth production.

5. Safety and Compliance:

   • Ensure all assembly activities are performed in a safe and compliant manner, promoting a safety-first culture.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Educational Requirements:

   • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in mechanical systems, industrial technology, or a related field is preferred.
   • 5+ years of experience in mechanical assembly, with hands-on experience in troubleshooting, process optimization, and quality control.

2. Technical Skills:

   • Extensive experience with mechanical assembly, including using hand tools, power tools, and assembly jigs.
   • Advanced understanding of mechanical systems, sub-assemblies, and finished product assembly.
   • Strong knowledge of quality control processes, including inspection techniques, testing methods, and statistical process control (SPC).
   • Experience with machine setup, calibration, and maintenance, including troubleshooting mechanical issues.

3. Soft Skills:

   • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor, motivate, and guide junior technicians.
   • Excellent problem-solving skills to address complex assembly challenges and equipment malfunctions.
   • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to report progress, quality results, and challenges.
   • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent time management and organizational skills.

4. Certifications (Preferred):

   • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certifications.
   • Certification in mechanical systems, machine operation, or quality control.
   • OSHA or other workplace safety certifications are beneficial.
