Job Description: Assembly Manager
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Assembly Manager to lead and oversee the assembly operations in our manufacturing facility. In this senior-level role, you will be responsible for managing the assembly team, ensuring that products are assembled accurately, efficiently, and according to quality standards. You will drive process improvements, manage resources, and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality products. This role requires strong leadership, a deep understanding of assembly processes, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead, manage, and motivate a team of assembly technicians and staff to achieve production goals and maintain high standards of quality.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify opportunities for professional development and training.
- Create and foster a positive, collaborative work environment that encourages teamwork, accountability, and safety.
- Manage staffing levels, ensuring the right number of skilled technicians are available to meet production needs.
Assembly Process Management:
- Oversee and optimize the assembly process, ensuring that products are assembled on time and meet required quality standards.
- Develop and implement efficient assembly procedures and practices to enhance productivity, minimize waste, and improve cycle times.
- Monitor and adjust assembly processes to reduce defects, improve throughput, and ensure the highest level of operational efficiency.
Quality Control and Assurance:
- Ensure that all products meet quality specifications by implementing and maintaining robust quality control procedures.
- Monitor product assembly at each stage of production, ensuring strict adherence to design specifications, customer requirements, and safety standards.
- Lead efforts to identify and resolve quality issues, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
Project Management and Resource Allocation:
- Manage assembly projects from planning to execution, ensuring that deadlines, quality standards, and production goals are met.
- Allocate resources effectively, including manpower, tools, materials, and machinery, to optimize production efficiency.
- Track production metrics, evaluate assembly performance, and make data-driven decisions to enhance operations.
Process Improvement and Continuous Improvement:
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to reduce costs, eliminate waste, and increase efficiency.
- Work closely with engineering, design, and other departments to implement new production methods, tools, and equipment to enhance assembly capabilities.
- Encourage team members to suggest improvements and empower them to implement changes that drive operational excellence.
Machine and Equipment Management:
- Ensure the proper setup, calibration, and maintenance of assembly machines and tools, working closely with the maintenance team to resolve any issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex assembly issues related to machinery or equipment, coordinating with engineering and maintenance teams as necessary.
- Ensure that machines and equipment are available and operational for production runs, minimizing downtime.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that all assembly operations comply with workplace safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and ensure that safety protocols are followed to maintain a safe working environment.
- Promote a culture of safety, providing training and awareness to the team regarding safety procedures and practices.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of production activities, including assembly progress, resource usage, and quality control results.
- Provide regular reports to senior management on production metrics, issues, and any improvements made within the assembly department.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other documentation related to the assembly process.

Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in assembly operations or manufacturing management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of assembly processes, mechanical systems, and manufacturing techniques.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with quality control systems, including statistical process control (SPC) and root cause analysis.
- Proficiency with production management software, machine setup, calibration, and troubleshooting.
Leadership and Management Skills:
- Proven experience in managing and developing high-performing teams, with strong leadership and motivational skills.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to work effectively with cross-functional teams and management.

Certifications (Preferred):
- Lean Six Sigma certifications (Green Belt or Black Belt) are a plus.
- OSHA or other relevant workplace safety certifications.
