Job Title: Aerospace Systems Technician
Job Summary:
The Senior Aerospace Systems Technician is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and optimization of complex aerospace systems across a variety of platforms, including avionics, propulsion, flight control, and communication systems. This leadership role requires technical expertise, project management, and mentoring of junior and mid-level technicians. The Senior Technician will lead efforts to ensure systems are functioning at peak performance, address critical system failures, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Additionally, the Senior Technician will collaborate with engineering teams to implement system upgrades and improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
System Installation, Integration, and Optimization:
- Lead the installation, integration, and optimization of avionics, propulsion, flight control, and communication systems within aircraft or spacecraft.
- Oversee the configuration, calibration, and testing of aerospace systems, ensuring they meet technical specifications, performance standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the integration of new systems and technologies into existing aerospace platforms, ensuring compatibility and minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
Advanced Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
- Take a leadership role in diagnosing and resolving complex system issues and failures in avionics, propulsion, and flight control systems.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts during system integration, testing, and operational use, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
- Develop and implement corrective actions to address recurring issues, optimizing the performance and reliability of aerospace systems.
Testing, Validation, and Certification:
- Lead and manage testing, validation, and certification processes for avionics and aerospace systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., FAA, EASA).
- Oversee hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, flight tests, and on-ground evaluations to verify the functionality and safety of systems.
- Collaborate with engineers to conduct thorough performance analysis, including identifying system weaknesses and implementing improvements.
Maintenance and System Performance Monitoring:
- Manage preventive maintenance schedules and ensure that routine inspections and checks are conducted on all aerospace systems to prevent failure and ensure operational readiness.
- Lead efforts to monitor the ongoing performance of aerospace systems and address issues that arise during routine operations.
- Proactively identify potential problems and implement solutions to optimize system performance, reliability, and efficiency.
Team Leadership and Mentorship:
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and skill development.
- Lead by example, promoting high standards for safety, technical proficiency, and efficiency across the team.
- Coordinate with engineers and other technical staff to provide training and professional development opportunities for team members.
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Work closely with engineering teams, project managers, and other departments to ensure that aerospace systems are integrated effectively and meet operational requirements.
- Act as a primary technical point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, offering expert advice on system functionality and performance.
- Facilitate communication between different teams to ensure smooth operations and timely resolution of issues.
Regulatory Compliance and Safety Assurance:
- Ensure that all aerospace systems and processes comply with relevant aviation and aerospace safety standards and regulations.
- Lead safety audits and ensure adherence to company policies, industry standards, and legal requirements regarding system operation and maintenance.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety protocols to minimize risk and ensure the safe operation of aerospace systems.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve system performance, efficiency, and reliability.
- Lead initiatives to incorporate new technologies, tools, and techniques into aerospace systems, keeping systems at the forefront of the industry.
- Evaluate industry trends and best practices to drive innovation within the aerospace systems department.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation for all aerospace systems, including design specifications, maintenance logs, test plans, and performance reports.
- Prepare detailed technical reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting findings for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure all documentation is compliant with regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
Project Management and Resource Allocation:
- Manage aerospace systems projects, including planning, resource allocation, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Coordinate team efforts to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to technical specifications.
- Allocate resources effectively to meet project goals and ensure that all technical and operational requirements are met.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Extensive experience with aerospace systems, including avionics, flight control systems, propulsion systems, and communication systems.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g., FAA, EASA) and safety standards for aerospace systems.
- Expertise in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing complex aerospace systems, including avionics and propulsion components.
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to lead teams, manage resources, and oversee complex technical projects.
- Advanced proficiency in the use of diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and system monitoring software.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability and performance.
- Proficiency in system integration and optimization techniques to improve overall system efficiency.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with engineers, team members, and external stakeholders.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Certifications related to aerospace systems, avionics, or maintenance (e.g., FAA certifications, A&P license) are highly desirable.
Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in aerospace systems, avionics, or related fields, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role.
- Extensive experience in the installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of avionics, flight control, and propulsion systems.
- Proven track record in leading projects, managing teams, and optimizing system performance across complex aerospace systems.
- Experience working with regulatory bodies to ensure avionics systems meet certification and safety standards.
