Job Title: Aerospace Systems Technician
Job Summary:
The Mid-Level Aerospace Systems Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of a wide range of aerospace systems, including avionics, propulsion, flight control, and other critical systems used in aircraft and spacecraft. This role requires the technician to take a more independent and proactive approach to system troubleshooting, repairs, and installations while working under minimal supervision. The technician will play a key role in ensuring that aerospace systems meet safety, performance, and regulatory standards and will be expected to mentor junior technicians while collaborating with engineers on system upgrades and optimizations.
Key Responsibilities:
System Installation and Integration:
- Lead the installation and integration of avionics, flight control, and propulsion systems in aircraft or spacecraft.
- Ensure proper wiring, component placement, and calibration of installed systems, adhering to technical specifications and safety standards.
- Collaborate with engineers to integrate new components or systems with existing platforms, ensuring compatibility and functionality.
Testing and Validation:
- Oversee and conduct tests on avionics, flight control, and propulsion systems, ensuring that all systems meet performance specifications and safety requirements.
- Lead hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, system validation, and simulations to verify the functionality and reliability of aerospace systems under different flight conditions.
- Document and analyze test results, providing feedback and recommending adjustments or repairs as needed.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and upgrades on aerospace systems, ensuring systems are in peak operating condition.
- Take a proactive approach to identifying and troubleshooting system failures, diagnosing root causes, and implementing corrective actions to restore systems to full functionality.
- Work independently or with minimal supervision to perform repairs and resolve issues with avionics, propulsion, and flight control systems.
System Optimization and Performance Monitoring:
- Lead efforts to optimize aerospace systems for better performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Monitor system performance during operational use, identifying areas for improvement and suggesting enhancements or modifications.
- Implement upgrades and modifications to existing systems to ensure they meet evolving technical standards and operational requirements.
Mentorship and Supervision:
- Mentor junior technicians, providing guidance and technical support as needed to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
- Provide training to junior technicians on maintenance procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and industry best practices.
- Review the work of junior team members to ensure compliance with safety protocols and technical specifications.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of system installations, tests, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Prepare technical reports, including test results, performance data, and recommendations for system improvements or repairs.
- Ensure all documentation is compliant with industry regulations (e.g., FAA, EASA) and is kept up-to-date for audit and certification purposes.
Collaboration with Engineering Teams:
- Work closely with engineers to implement system upgrades, troubleshoot complex issues, and optimize system performance.
- Provide technical feedback and insights to engineers regarding system performance, reliability, and potential areas of improvement.
- Participate in design reviews and meetings with engineering teams to contribute technical knowledge on system integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Regulatory Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all maintenance, repair, and testing activities comply with regulatory standards (e.g., FAA, EASA) and internal safety procedures.
- Lead efforts to ensure all aerospace systems meet the necessary safety, environmental, and operational certifications.
- Participate in safety audits and assist in maintaining safety protocols across all aerospace systems.
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead initiatives to improve maintenance procedures, testing methods, and troubleshooting techniques to increase efficiency and reduce system downtime.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in aerospace systems and integrate them into the organization's maintenance and troubleshooting processes.
- Participate in process improvement teams to help drive operational efficiency and excellence within the aerospace systems department.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- In-depth knowledge of aerospace systems, including avionics, propulsion, flight control systems, and related components.
- Strong experience in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing avionics and aerospace systems, including familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and simulation tools.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., FAA, EASA) for aerospace systems and safety.
- Ability to work independently and take a proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical problems.
- Ability to mentor junior technicians and provide technical leadership within the team.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with engineers, other technicians, and cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and system monitoring software used in the aerospace industry.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Relevant certifications related to aerospace systems, avionics, or maintenance (e.g., FAA certifications, A&P license) are highly desirable.

Experience:

- Experience in leading maintenance or repair activities on complex aerospace systems.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and safety protocols in the aerospace industry.
Tools and Technologies:
- Proficiency with avionics testing equipment, diagnostic tools, and calibration devices.
- Familiarity with simulation and testing software (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, LabVIEW) used in avionics and aerospace systems testing.
- Experience with system performance monitoring tools and data analysis software.
