Job Title: Aerospace Instrumentation Engineer
Job Summary:
The Mid-Level Aerospace Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of avionics systems, flight control systems, and precision instrumentation for aircraft navigation, communication, and control. This role involves working on critical systems such as flight data recorders, radar systems, altimeters, and emergency communication systems, ensuring their accuracy, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards. The Mid-Level Engineer will take a more active role in problem-solving, project management, and team leadership while continuing to ensure the highest levels of safety and operational efficiency in aerospace instrumentation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design, Installation, and Integration:
- Lead the design, installation, and integration of avionics and flight control systems in aircraft, ensuring seamless functionality across systems.
- Oversee the integration of precision instrumentation for navigation, communications, and control, working closely with R&D, engineering, and production teams.
- Ensure that avionics and flight control systems are integrated into aircraft according to the required specifications and regulatory requirements.
Calibration and Maintenance:
- Perform and lead calibration activities for avionics systems, flight control systems, and other precision instrumentation, ensuring systems meet accuracy and operational standards.
- Maintain and troubleshoot avionics systems, flight control systems, and communication systems, ensuring that they operate efficiently and reliably during normal and emergency flight operations.
- Establish and follow regular maintenance schedules to ensure avionics systems function at optimal levels and minimize aircraft downtime.
Testing and Validation:
- Oversee the testing and validation of avionics and flight control systems to ensure they meet both functional and safety standards.
- Conduct or supervise testing of systems under various conditions to ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues found during testing and ensure timely resolution of any technical problems in the systems.
Safety and Emergency Systems Support:
- Ensure the integration, maintenance, and testing of safety and emergency systems for aircraft, such as emergency flight control systems and emergency communication systems.
- Perform checks and validations on emergency communication systems, including altitude warning systems, emergency fuel systems, and flight data monitoring.
- Assist in ensuring that aircraft safety instrumentation meets regulatory and safety standards, ensuring reliability in critical flight operations.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate records of all calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities in compliance with internal procedures and external regulations (e.g., FAA, EASA, ISO 9001).
- Ensure that all avionics and flight control systems comply with the relevant standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and review reports on system performance, calibration results, and any deviations from standards, and ensure the documentation is available for audits or inspections.
Project Management and Technical Leadership:
- Manage and support projects related to avionics and flight control systems, ensuring that the work is completed on time, within scope, and meets regulatory and operational requirements.
- Supervise the work of junior engineers and technicians, providing technical leadership and guidance to ensure that tasks are completed correctly and efficiently.
- Work closely with other departments (e.g., R&D, engineering, production) to ensure that avionics and flight control systems meet the operational needs of the aircraft.
Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
- Take a lead role in troubleshooting complex avionics, flight control, and communication system issues that arise during production, testing, or operational flights.
- Diagnose and resolve problems quickly and efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to aircraft operations and ensuring systems meet safety standards.
- Lead and support root cause analysis (RCA) to identify the underlying causes of issues and propose solutions to improve system reliability and performance.
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Collaborate with other engineering teams, including electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers, to ensure the proper integration of avionics and control systems in aircraft.
- Work with suppliers and manufacturers to evaluate and source components and systems, ensuring they meet performance, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Support communication between internal teams and external regulatory bodies to ensure that all avionics and control systems meet compliance standards.
Training and Development:
- Provide technical training to junior engineers and technicians on avionics, flight control systems, and precision instrumentation systems.
- Support the professional development of the engineering team by mentoring less experienced engineers and sharing knowledge of best practices in system integration, calibration, and testing.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Advanced understanding of avionics systems, flight control systems, and precision instrumentation used in aircraft navigation, communication, and control.
- Experience with calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of avionics and flight control systems, including altimeters, gyroscopes, radar systems, and communication equipment.
- Familiarity with safety and emergency systems for aircraft, including emergency flight control systems and communication systems.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g., FAA, EASA, ISO 9001) and safety compliance for aircraft systems and avionics.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, with experience diagnosing and resolving complex avionics system issues.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and lead projects.
- Strong project management skills, including experience with planning, resource allocation, and meeting deadlines.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Professional certifications related to avionics, aircraft control systems, or aerospace instrumentation are a plus.

- 3-5 years of experience working with avionics systems, flight control systems, and precision instrumentation in the aerospace industry.
- Hands-on experience with the calibration, maintenance, and testing of avionics and flight control systems, as well as troubleshooting and problem resolution.
- Experience working with safety and emergency systems for aircraft is highly desirable.
- Prior experience in project management or leading technical teams is beneficial.
Tools and Technologies:
- Familiarity with avionics systems, including flight data recorders, navigation systems, radar, communication systems, and control panels.
- Expertise in calibration tools and testing equipment for avionics and flight control systems.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software for troubleshooting avionics systems (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters).
- Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Excel) to evaluate performance and troubleshooting data.
