The Junior Maintenance Technician – HVAC Systems assists in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of shipboard and offshore heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. This role provides on-the-job support for ensuring the functionality, safety, and regulatory compliance of HVAC units, ducting, chillers, fans, filters, and control components across marine environments. The technician will work under the guidance of senior staff and gain experience with both preventive and corrective maintenance tasks in confined and challenging spaces.
Assist with routine inspection and servicing of HVAC equipment, including air handling units (AHUs), chillers, compressors, condensers, evaporators, and ducting.
Perform filter replacements, belt adjustments, lubrication, and basic component cleaning to support system efficiency.
Help monitor and log airflow, temperature, and refrigerant pressure readings using handheld gauges and digital sensors.
Support troubleshooting activities related to low airflow, temperature deviations, abnormal noises, and sensor malfunctions.
Aid in the repair or replacement of minor components such as fans, valves, relays, and fuses under supervision.
Assist in the testing and balancing of HVAC systems onboard vessels to ensure optimal airflow and temperature regulation.
Follow safety protocols while working in confined spaces, high-temperature areas, and zones with rotating machinery or refrigerants.
Document maintenance actions, report abnormalities, and support the completion of job cards and maintenance logs.
Learn and adhere to shipboard and offshore maintenance procedures and environmental regulations.
Support HVAC shutdown/startup operations during dry-docking or vessel handovers.
